What a summer!  Our summer reading camp is winding down as I write this.  We just have one day left.  This is the third year we have had the camp, and this is the biggest and best camp yet.  We are averaging over 28 kids per day in attendance.  We have 12 – 15 volunteers

December already? It’s good though as Christmas is always such an exciting time at Fort Bend Hope with many opportunities for building community. At Fort Bend Hope, we believe strongly in the value of community.  We believe it makes a real difference in our ability to fulfill our mission of restoring hope by empowering families through education. 

If you have ever spent much time around me, you know that I have lots of theories. Theories are how I make sense of the world. Sometimes they are correct, and sometimes they are not. Regardless, they help inform my thinking. One of my favorites is how I think about the non-profit world.

What a great summer we’ve had at Fort Bend Hope. I believe that our summer camp was one to remember. I know that our kids had a blast as much as we did. Now, as we get closer to the start of our Fall semester, I think of how fulfilling it is to work in a nonprofit that loves people and loves to give.

Last year’s camp was a great experience. This one, was even better. Like last year, we had a focus on reading every day to keep kids reading throughout the summer, so they don’t fall backwards academically.

Dynamite comes in small packages. From tiny acorns, mighty oaks grow. Can’t start a fire without a spark. There are a lot of sayings about how big things start small. I was thinking about that this week as I was reflecting on the history of Fort Bend Hope.

Happy New Year! It’s not too late to say that is it? The start of a new year gives a chance for a new beginning. At Fort Bend Hope, we believe we are in the business of new beginnings.

We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and had some time to reflect on the people and moments over the past year which you are thankful for. For Fort Bend Hope, it is a year in which God has truly blessed us.

The past few months have been some of the busiest and most exciting that Fort Bend Hope has ever known, and this is a very good thing!

Some days give you an opportunity to look around and appreciate how much the dedication of everyone involved with Fort Bend Hope comes together to make a true lighthouse for the community.
