SLAM Camp: Science
Summer SLAM kicked off on Monday of this week at 8:00 am. The first kids and volunteers gathered for breakfast and then the week got going with a character lesson. For the next few weeks, kids will listen to different volunteers give a character lesson. Right after our character lesson, we have some reading time. After that, it is all about science and activities! Doctor Amber Yates visited us and gave everyone a lesson about blood types. She even typed the blood of our Director Adam Yates. His blood type was A Positive. He said that means he has an A+ which means he must be smart! The kids did not agree. The kids learned about why blood types are important and got to do several hands on activities with the local blood bank. Later in the week, we were visited by Erin Mills from the Houston Museum of Natural Science at Sugarland. Erin gave a lesson about bugs and insects and even let the kids touch and take pictures with the bugs. Another exciting thing that happened was that our kids got a sneak peek at one of the new clubs that we will be offered this fall. Adeythia came in and introduced the Robotics club. Stay tuned for more information about our exciting club. It was great first week. See you soon!
