After School Clubs
The past few months have been some of the busiest and most exciting that Fort Bend Hope has ever known, and this is a very good thing. One of the most exciting is the extracurricular clubs we have introduced this year as part of our after-school program. These are in addition to the normal help with homework and reading that we provide. These clubs are designed to introduce children to a wider world of possibilities and, hopefully, create a lifelong love of one or more of these club topics. The clubs offered are:
- Art
- Music
- Robotics
- Crafting
- Cooking
- Science
- Chess
The point of the clubs is not to make a child an expert in the subject matter overnight. Instead, the goal is to give each child a sense of belonging in a club that they love. It will let them have something that is theirs. As they grow and mature into middle school and high school, many of these clubs will be available there. If a child already has a love of one of these, it gives him or her an immediate place to plug into when they join the new school. This can be somewhere the child is accepted and included in a new place. Beyond that, participants in extracurricular clubs have been shown to have a higher GPA, miss fewer days of school, and be more likely to graduate than a student who does not participate.
Our clubs are exciting for the children we have today and are helping set them up for success in the future. Our after-school program and these clubs continue to be offered for free and are a tremendous value for the community. For a child going to a comparable for profit after-school program with this many different clubs offered, the cost would be around $5,000 per academic year. This means the fair market value created from this program with the 16 students currently enrolled is $80,000/year. Thank you for your generous support of Fort Bend Hope and for making these programs free of charge to the students. Please consider donating today to further help support our mission of restoring hope by empowering families through education.
